Finland

In Finland we have no present legislation for infertility treatments. Now the proposal for the new law is ready and the first discussion is beginning in the Finnish Parliament in June 2002.

The ethical and legal debate is focused on three issues:

  • To allow only non-anonymous gamete donation and to allow the children to find out their biological parents at the age of 18
  • To allow the treatment of single women and lesbian couples
  • To prohibit the surrogacy treatment

The new legislation in Sweden is also timely and the changes in the both countries may lead to "treatment tourism".

Terveiset NFS:n suomalaisille jäsenille. Kotisivut ovat työn alla ja niitä odotellessa toivoisin Teidän lähettävän viestinne, ehdotuksenne NFS:lle yms. allekirjoittaneen kautta. Hyvää kesää kaikille.
