NEWS from Denmark

In March, 240 people participated in the 12th Danish Fertility Society Annual Meeting in Nyborg, Denmark. After four years of hard and dedicated work, Søren Ziebe resigned as chairman of the DFS board, and I am honoured to have been elected the new chairman for the next two-year period.

True to tradition, we presented the Danish ART and IUI data for the past year – and the 2008 data is now available on the DFS website, www.fertilitetsselskab.dk.

As the first European country, Denmark implemented the EU Tissue and Cell Directive in April 2007. The Danish Medicine Agency is in charge of implementing the directive. The authorities have recently concluded the second round of inspections at tissues centres across Denmark, and we’re very pleased that all centres fulfilled the directive requirements and were approved by the authorities.

In 2008, Denmark took part in an ESHRE pilot study called Cross Border. ESHRE has conducted a survey in five different geographic areas in Europe in order to determine the extent of fertility tourism. The survey results will be presented at the ESHRE meeting in Amsterdam from 28 June to 1 July 2009.

We’re proud that Denmark will be hosting the next Nordic Fertility Society meeting and look forward to welcoming you in Nyborg from 5 to 8 August 2009.

Kind regards, Karin Erb

DFS Chairman
